Wow - someone noticed I hadn't updated my blog in a long time, so I thought I'd take a few minutes this weekend to catch up. This will probably seem more like a novel - after all, a lot has happened since June 25th.
It's Fall - I can't ever decide if my favorite time of year is Fall or Spring, but I think I officially pick Fall. I love everything about it - the cool weather, the smells (burning leaves, pumpkin spice, cinnamon, apple), the foods (chili, stew, cinnamon rolls - they just taste better in the Fall), and all the pretty colors outside. I really miss being on campus this year because the trees there are just gorgeous in the Fall. However, we do have a beautiful trail behind our apartment that looks amazing right now.
Speaking of apartment -- we will be moving out in less than a month. WE BOUGHT A HOUSE!! I have mixed feelings about leaving .. It was the first place we lived together as a married couple and basically my first "home" after college. I really do like our little apartment, but now I'm so excited to have a house of our own. I'm excited to decorate and not have to worry about nails in the wall or whether or not I can paint. I'm excited to not go to the bank and write out a huge check every month for something I don't own. I'm excited to not worry about whether or not the people below us will care if we're running the washer and dryer at midnight. And I'm in love with our new house - obviously, or we wouldn't have bought it. We got a GREAT deal for a lot of reasons. Good thing I never really unpacked here, huh?
Other than the house, nothing too eventful has happened. Benny has gone to Germany again .. and will be going back in late November or early December. It's possible he will be over there on Thanksgiving Day. I'm praying he'll go the next week because I'd hate to not have him here for one of my favorite holidays!
I've been at my job for almost 3 months now - I still feel like I'm just not getting it and it's very overwhelming. I was hoping to have more direct contact with children and families, but I feel like I spend all my time driving and doing paperwork. I'm hoping I'll get the hang of it or it'll be a long winter and spring until I'm done for the summer in May! Here's a picture of my office...
I am loving the married life - we are having so much fun. He's been my rock through a lot of hard things these past few months. We both LOVE food, so we've been trying new recipes every week. Every Sunday we make our grocery list for 4-5 meals for the week so we aren't buying a bunch of random food we'll never eat. It seems to be working out pretty well and leaves room for that occasional frozen pizza or dinner out. We're hoping to get to the pumpkin patch tomorrow or next weekend and carve us some pumpkins!!
Cyclone football is in full swing!! We've been going to all the games and tailgating with friends. It's been great hanging out with our Ames group that we haven't been able to see much all summer. I get a little sad when we're at Iowa State because I miss it SO much, but there are things I enjoy about being done. I am taking an online class through Iowa State so I'm not completely done with it yet.
Well - I think that's all for now. I would like to start blogging about different topics .. I feel like everyone knows what's going on in my life because of Facebook, but I love writing so my next blog will hopefully be a little more interesting. Off to eat some cookies! :)
